Sunset Cruises

Boat Tours

The “Muskoka Experience” always includes a cruise on the big 3 Muskoka Lakes, with their rugged & beautiful Canadian Shield vistas & gorgeous cottages. Enjoy live commentary including history & local lore. Depart Port Carling 7 days/wk late June-Oct. Sunset, dinner & private/bridal cruises too! Owned & operated by Captain Randy Potts, who has been a licensed captain for over 30 years, Sunset Cruises is an alternative to the larger ships, and can show you Muskoka scenery accessible only by our smaller ships. We go where the large boats don’t. The Peerless II made its living for over 50 years as a gasoline and home heating oil delivery boat. We restored it so visitors and locals alike could see and experience first hand the historic supply boat era on the lakes.

Boating on Lake Muskoka

Boating safety and local regulations

Safety starts before you even leave the dock. Ensure that everyone on board has a properly fitted life jacket, and keep essential gear like a first aid kit, fire extinguisher, and a throwable flotation device within reach. Check local regulations for speed limits, no-wake zones, and right-of-way rules, and always keep a safe distance from other boats and swimmers. Be mindful of alcohol consumption while boating, as many lakes have strict laws regarding operating a vessel under the influence.

Where to refuel and restock

Before setting out, check your fuel levels and know where the nearest marinas are located for refueling. Running out of gas mid-lake can quickly turn an enjoyable day into a hassle. Many marinas also offer supplies like snacks, ice, and beverages, so make a note of where you can restock if needed. Planning a quick stop at a lakeside restaurant or cafe can also be a great way to break up the day.

Planning a perfect day on the lake

A well-prepared day on the water starts with packing smart. Bring towels, sunscreen, hats, and plenty of water to stay hydrated. For families, pack juice boxes, snacks, and easy-to-eat lunches—plus extra towels for after swimming. Plan your route in advance, including where you’ll stop for lunch and when you expect to head back. By knowing your itinerary, you’ll be able to relax and fully enjoy the day, whether it’s swimming, fishing, or just cruising along and soaking in the scenery.

Navigating channels, coves, and open waters

Before heading out, familiarize yourself with the lake’s layout, including any narrow channels, shallow areas, and marked buoys. Use a GPS or lake map to plot your course and keep an eye out for other boats, kayakers, and unexpected obstacles. When exploring coves or less-traveled waters, slow down to maintain control and avoid hidden rocks or submerged logs.
