The Commissioner’s Cup (Mass. Saltwater Derby)

The Commissioner’s Cup, formerly known as the Governor’s Cup, is Massachusetts’ premier saltwater fishing tournament, running annually from January 1 to November 30. This event is open to anglers of all ages, including juniors aged 15 and under, and features two main divisions: the Weigh-In and the Catch & Release. Participants can compete statewide at various official weigh-in stations or submit their entries online. Awards are given to the heaviest fish in the Weigh-In Division and the longest fish in the Catch & Release Division for each species, with separate categories for adults and juniors. The overall winners in each category are honored as the Top Anglers of the Year. Additional accolades include the Top Shop award for the tackle shop with the most derby-eligible fish weighed in and the Best Captain in the Business award for the head boat or charter captain with the most winning fish caught from their vessel. The derby encourages catch and release practices, promoting sustainable fishing.
