Village description: Guarda, the village of the "Schellenursli" with its uniquely intact villagescape and richly decorated houses, lies high above the valley floor of Lower Engadia on a sunny terrace. Since its destruction by the Austrians (1621), the village has not been affected by any serious disasters or major fires. This is why the village has been preserved in its original state and was placed under protection in 1938. Thanks to its winter and summer hiking trails, its proximity to the Silvretta region and the marvellous views, Guarda is an excellent hiking area at any time of year. It lies high above the valley floor on a marvellous sun terrace. The location gave the pretty Engadin village its name: a lookout point with marvellous views up and down the valley. Guarda is known for its unique village centre with magnificent Engadin houses decorated with sgraffito.
